Mama Hearts Sade

Tonight is the rarest of nights. Dessa drifted off to sleep at 7:15pm on the dot and hasn’t stirred since. Before that we had a lovely, lovely afternoon together – an errand and then home to make dinner together. She helped me wash dishes and then had a silly bath getting in and out of her bath seat. Oh and between the sink and bath time, mi abuelito called. She was talking up a storm for him and I could feel his heart warm over the many miles between us. When she fell asleep and I was here by myself in our condo, I had a certain peace come over me that I haven’t felt in a long while. Nothing special has happened today, nothing out of the ordinary but I just feel really myself this evening. It sounds odd but it’s something I haven’t felt in quite a bit.

Inspired, I put Sade on and poured myself some Pinot. I’m an odd girl so to relax I have been sorting through our book shelf and I am in heaven. Then this song came on which melted me. Here are the lyrics:

Sade
Lovers Rock (2000)
The Sweetest Gift

Quietly while you were asleep
The moon and I were talking
I asked that she’d always keep you protected

She promised you her light
That you so gracefully carry
You bring your light and shine like morning

And then the wind pulls the clouds across the moon
Your light fills the darkest room
And I can see the miracle
That keeps us from falling

She promised all the sweetest gifts
That only the heaven’s could bestow
You bring your light and shine like morning

And as you so gracefully give
Her light as long as you live
I’ll always remember this moment

I’m not very tech savy so I haven’t the faintest how to put a cool little gadget in here to let you listen to her great voice. But click here to catch a live version. I’m back to my books and my wine.
